Wood's Polyps is a very hardy, fast
growing coral, that I include in all my
Miniature Coral Reefs.  This is a
rather long polyp ed coral.  Each
polyp has reached lengths of up to 5
inches long.  It is something that you
need to keep in mind when placing
this coral on your reef.  It can be
pretty aggressive toward other corals
that it comes in contact with.  My
Bubble Tip Anemone seems to have
an ongoing battle with the Wood's
Polyps.  I've placed a piece of live
rock in between the Wood's polyp
and the Bubble Tip Anemone keep
the peace.
Wood's Polyp is a very fast growing
coral, which is a real benefit when
you are trying to cover large portions
of your reef aquarium.  There are
drawbacks to this, and I have a
perfect example on the left.  The
polyps stick out so much, that they
are blocking the light to the sand
polyps below it.  I've had to move the
Sand polyps to keep it from being
over run.   The Wood's polyp colony
is now about 10 times the size and
I've moved many pieces to other reef
tanks.  Is advantageous to place this
coral on the back of the reef
because Wood's polyps will grow on
the glass of the aquarium.
The colony of Wood's Polyps on the
right was started with fragments that
I've scrapped of the aquarium glass
of my main reef tank.  It took this
coral no time at all to attach itself to
the live rock and continue to grow.  I
recommend a nice medium current
directed at the Wood's Polyps to
keep debris from settling on it.  This
will keep Cyanobacteria from
growing on the polyps, and literally,
choke them to death.  This is a
strategy  that I utilize with all multiple
polyp corals.
